Painful realitiesPoetry creates aw beness of agonized realities. This arsehole be appreciatedin particular to war poetry where primarily it is the aim of the poetto educate people on the horrific events that take dictate during thebleak years on the battlefields. The painful realities are expressed by means of metaphors, similes, specific tone of voice communication and mood.Furthermore, poets use tempo, reflections and questions in theirwriting in order to express their feelings and what war is essentiallyabout.In order to reckon at how poetry creates awareness, four poems will beconsidered. These areWar, hiss MartinDulce et Decorum Est, Wilfred OwenGrenade, Francis ScarfeBombardment, D H LawrenceIn the first poem, it is evident that painful realities are createdthrough the authors use of descriptive language and his ability todescribe the scenes on the battle fields and the impacts later.There is no regular structure to the poem although there is areoccurring line at the con clusion of each stanza War is war, nothingmore. This is the basis to the poem, explaining to readers that war isas it appears. It is as the gruesome scenes of violence, death andpain. There are The erratic shorter versus change magnitude the bulkDulce et Decorum Est creates the realities through careful structure.After describing how the soldiers, trudged through the mud, furrowshod and drunk with fatigue, it then describes the gas bombs. Withclever use of metaphor, the light-green gas becomes a misty sea wheresoldiers drown as their lungs are burnt. Owen then concludes his poem,questioning the government, questioning Jessie Pope and questioningthe world that so ruthlessly lied to young men, forcing them toenlist. He questions the old adage, dulce et decorum est master patriamori, (it is sweet and fitting to die for ones country.)The realities are so well depicted in this poem by Owen through the superior of punctuation and use of reflection. Exclamation marks areemployed, exem plifying the intensity of the cries of the soldiers andhow they tried to warn each other of the green sea. Owen is able to
